The theme of workplace conflict and how to gain a handle on it seems to be a burning one for many as they look to the coming year - understandably as the research highlighted that a quarter of HR professionals spend a day per week dealing with conflict. During the online event, our team of conflict experts presented the key findings from the research, and put forward practical recommendations for what HR can be doing now to combat these issues and prevent them recurring in the long run.
One significant conclusion drawn is that over half the respondents stated that managers do not see dealing with conflict as their responsibility and quickly pass it onto HR. This lack of line manager intervention at a potential nip-it-in-the-bud stage is putting more pressure on HR and leading to escalating situations. People Resolutions made a case for awareness and skills training (including mediation and coaching) to enable managers to develop a sense of accountability when it comes to dealing with conflict, why it's important to intervene early and some effective techniques to do so successfully.
A focused group to explore the survey findings in greater depth has been set up on HubCap - you can access it here; signing up is free and quick - where you can also download the presentation slides from the web cast.
