Who's Fit For Work?

Our sister company, People Resolutions, recently hosted a business-focused webinar for HR professionals on the new Fit for Work scheme, pioneered by Dame Carol Black to help people return to work more quickly in a programme of piloting lasting until 2011.

HubCap received an unprecedented number of registrants for the webinar which to us says that many employers are looking to get to grips with what the scheme is and what is means for their organisation. We wanted to provide awareness and guidance on exactly this, via a free hour-long webinar, drafting in some of the top experts in the field to present: Gail Kovacs, Linda Fletcher, and our own Linda Hoskinson, who all have extensive backgrounds in this area and offered their insight to listeners.

Within the themes covered, a useful question for everyone was raised: “What are the immediate things every employer can do now to align with the new scheme?” Some of the suggestions put forward:

  • Educate line managers on the scheme
  • Conduct an Absence Audit to identify hotspots of absence and importantly tackle their causes
  • Update company policies in line with the new scheme
  • Raise awareness of the relevant parts of the scheme to employees
  • Seek advice from GPs, Occupational Health and legal services

After a record attendance on the webinar (you can see our live tweets during the event here), we hope that People Resolutions has helped educate HR professionals on this new scheme and what it means for then.
